The actual problem is that a so-called "modern western democracy" just killed civil rights and too many of ya'll see it as a blueprint rather than a sign that things have gone very wrong. And I'm not sure if ya'll are actually evil, or just so stupid that you don't realize how this will blow up on everyone.
But ya'll aren't Trade Unionists- I mean truckers. Or communists- I mean alt-right fringe radicals. So why would you care- much less speak up? I'm sure you'll always have people willing to speak up for you.
It is extremely concerning- and should be to anyone who values democracy, that this has occurred. I’m not here to say wether this was a peaceful protest as many claim or if it was as violent and illegal as others claim. The level of disruption was certainly high- if not by the nature of a blockade at least, but if both the demonstrators and the authorities had desired to, those issues could have been cleared up without the need to invoke emergency powers and forcibly remove demonstrators. I don’t know that it constitutes “killing civil rights” even if we can call it an affront to civil rights. I also don’t think this is a case of “just,” as the USA and many other democracies, those people red and blue, having been living under extreme and wide spread violations of law and rights since at least 9/11. If there was a time to be concerned most- it was around the time we started spying on civilians openly and locking civilians in military prisons in Cuba etc. without due process.
When the USA locked humans in cages at the border and speedster families… our outrage for civil rights and human rights was largely tepid and divided. When people tried to cross from Mexico to the USA in violation of our laws to seek freedom and a livelihood- when they said they should have the freedom to protect themselves and their families- many didn’t help. When Canadian truckers protest not being able to cross the border against US law in the name of the same- it becomes a big issue.
The thing that often is overlooked in that debate is that the US required cross border truckers be vaccinated- even if Canada refused the mandate, only vaccinated truckers could make the cross legally.
The point isn’t a discussion of the issue- the point is that this isn’t new- it’s just the first time certain groups or individuals are feeling close to home what’s been going on for others for a looong time.
So this battle may or may not be over- but maybe if we want people to stand with us and fight for civil rights- the next time we don’t agree with politics but see people across the aisle standing against social injustice and against violating rights- wether that’s gun rights or locking people in cages at the border or whatever else- maybe we should stand with them and then perhaps they’ll stand with us. Just my thoughts.

I think that you may be reading insult in to what I am saying. I didn’t say or even imply you were in any way included in any of these groups I mentioned. If you choose to place yourself in those groups and then take offense on that behalf, or assumed I was saying that you were XYZ- that wasn’t my intent.
It doesn’t particularly matter if things are the same thing or 1:1 etc if we are saying that it is important to stand up for freedom. You say that you aren’t sure if people can’t see it or are “too evil/stupid” to see the threat to freedom- that’s how people who feel differently about those other issues feel when people tell them it isn’t important or isn’t a threat to freedom.
You feel this vaccine mandate is a threat, that the dispersion of truckers is a threat- and to a degree I agree. However- when someone else says they are at threat from police or this or that- if we aren’t there for them when they feel threatened because we don’t see where they are coming from-
- why would they come and stand with us when we ask? Freedom is freedom. If we want to stand up and say: “I care about THIS freedom but not ALL freedom because this impacts things or people I care about…” that’s one thing- but if we hang the whole thing in an ideal that we must defend freedom… that means we have to defend other peoples freedoms too- even freedoms we don’t like or from threats we don’t see or understand.
I did not say or imply what you are saying about yourself and your feelings about “people of certain colors..” etc. are there no POC truckers? No. Are no POC Canadians upset? Of course there are some.

If the goal is to come to the closest thing to “truth,” as opposed to a goal of “winning,” then any idea is open to challenge. It’s how we better incomplete ideas and proof solid ones.
If I had some idea where in that you are finding disrespect-
- I could try to accommodate your personal idea of respect. To a point of course, I don’t see respect and deference as the same thing, nor are faith and respect even if they can be tied.
