That was so adorable! Really sad but adorable! What I'm guessing happened is that, she was a ghost and she only comes out on halloween, she died by one of those bear traps and at the end of the night she has to return to her body.
More or less but only children can see her. It goes along with ghost lore and stuff. Ghosts can be tied to certain things or places that keeps them in that general area. However on all hallows eve aka Halloween ghosts can wander the earth freely without a care in the world.
