This is what I reference when people tell me things like "Watermelons have the same consistency as a human head." If that were true, her head should have taken just as much damage as the watermelon. But I've looked up this story, and she walked away a bit bruised up, but otherwise no worse for the wear. I'd like the science side of FunSub to explain what people mean when they say a watermelon has the same consistency as a human head (it's often said when testing ballistics - I've heard it on Mythbusters a number of times).
If it had hit her straight on (as opposed to sideways, you can see her head turn sideways a bit at the last moment) I would imagine a badly broken nose and some dental damage.
Sure. But her head didn't explode and the watermelon did. If they truly have the same consistency, wouldn't they have both had an equal reaction to the force?
Bottom line: that stated strength of a watermelon rind is vastly overstated and quite frankly full of shit. One of those bottle cap factoid sort of things.
