people are afraid that people do that and facebook rumors make it worse, but theres close no accounts of it actually happening. kinda like that whole satanists scare back in the day.
I think its like how many Indians consider cows sacred and wonder why we would ever eat them. Thats us to some chinese. Since we have had dogs as our companions we wonder why someone would ever eat them.
The local government claims that it doesn't condone nor run the festival but rather groups of people just come to the town to eat dog around the summer solstice. Also, it isn't illegal at all. Chinese officials banned a 600 year old tradition of a dog eating festival, the one we're referring to has only been in place since the 90's, in another town but haven't issued national laws against it.
I understand that it is trying to do something good but a hashtag and re-posting this on other platforms won't really do anything. Yes, more people will know about it but no one does anything further because people are lazy and issues like this are to hard to comprehend or too far away properly to be able to fix
Hate to break it to you but facebook tumblr twitter instagram and even google are all blocked chinese people mainly use local social networks so it wont actually get their attention. If these people will continue this tradition even though it s against the law, chances are a celebrity wont influence them any better.
Yulin is a town in China and this tradition is only practiced there. Everyone is an idiot if they are trying to tell someone how to live, in Peru and Chile they eat guinea pigs, in Mexico people consume rabbits. It's sad but it's their right because before anyone's stupid activism there has always been a food chain. Long before any organism like us and long after we leave.

Okay, quick question, how would consuming a rabbit be considered bad? Plenty of people est them in the US. I mean, if you're speaking about pet rabbits, that's another story, but wild rabbits are fair game. (I assume I'm going to be downvoted for saying this, so.... Yup. Have fun)
Exactly. The torture isn't necessary at all. They can boil and skin them when they're dead but you can't just go and pick up a dog and give it a slow and painful death because you think they'll taste better. (I think the whole thing isn't necessary at all but if we can't stop them from killing and eating them, we need to at least stop them for stealing animals from their homes and torturing them before they die)
I normally shrug of stereotypes, but my friend mentioned me eating my dog so I bitch slapped him. Eating a dog isn't a good joke, especially me being an animal lover
I don't think they torture the dogs on purpose. I think its just that during transportation or something they experience harsh conditions or maybe they aren't slaughtering them properly and they experience pain. They don't electrocute the dogs or chop off the legs one by one for fun or anything. Its like how some slaughterhouses don't make sure cows are fully dead before they are hung upside down on the meat conveyor belt. It isnt done with the intent to harm the animals for fun, it just happens sometimes out of carelessness.
you could always just ask anyone who kills and prepared meat if agony and adrenaline makes meat better. but I'm sure we kill things fast just for humanitarian concerns, we've always been good about that as a species.
How does reposting this picture do anything good for anyone?
Showing a picture about dogs getting killed and a hashtag to someone doesn't just stop it.
And what celebrity would stop this?
You don't see Kim Kardashian or Kanye West donating money and food to starving children in Africa.
You don't see Neil Patrick Harris giving money to cancer research.
So how does spreading this picture do much of anything at all, except make people say "ooh that's not good" and that's that.
Those are just things they do, doesn't mean every dog goes through each one. For example, one might be beaten then boiled. One might be tortured then dragged behind a car, etc
According to wikipedia:
Each year, Yulin, Guangxi celebrates the summer solstice in June by having a festival of eating dog meat and lychees, washed down by strong liquor. The 4th festival in 2011 spanned 10 days during which 15,000 dogs were consumed.[60][61] In recent years, more than 10,000 dogs were slaughtered for each festival. The animal rights NGO Best Volunteer Centre claimed the city had more than 100 slaughterhouses, processing between 30 and 100 dogs a day. However, the Yulin Centre for Animal Disease Control and Prevention claimed the city had only eight dog slaughterhouses selling approximately 200 dogs, although this increased to about 2,000 dogs during the Yulin festival.[62] Prior to the 2014 festival, eight dogs (and their two cages) sold for 1,150 yuan ($185) and six puppies for 1,200 yuan.

North Korea doesn't have dogs as pets anyway, so they think it's all good, but the Chinese culture still have them as pets yet eat them? I couldn't even if it wasn't my own dog! I'm surprised that they don't care that people come into their homes and get their dogs though. I would be so effing pissed!!!
Dog ownership was made illegal in the 60's therefore for them to do anything involving police about it would mean they were confessing to breaking the law.
i strongly suspect that the parts about taking pets and shit is at least a bit exaggerated. its like we eat all kinds of pork and might have pork celebrations, but no one goes breaking into houses stealing pot bellied pigs.
everything i find on google is protesting it, so its not really a reliable source since they are just repeating the same information in a circle. i just feel like a healthy dose of skepticism is appropriate when reading what people have to say about other cultures and things they do different than us.
Eating dogs is terrible but in the U.S. We eat animals as well. But I think the difference between the too is that these dogs are not killed humanely, instead they are tortured and hurt, which is why i am not a supporter
Go to hell I hope the animal abusers get the same treatment dogs are loyal and kind show the same respect if you torture an animal I hope you get seriously injured by that animal
Wtf, it's like if we did that to you when you ate a cow. I agree, if they are going to kill the dog, kill it fast and painlessly, don't torture t and drag out its pain, but Yulin people are used to it, so killing the people is just wrong
You're promoting cannibalism now? grosssssssss. Unless of course if you're highly intelligent dog using a computer, then you're reply is totally in the clear.

Dogs might taste good, yes. In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with eating dogs (or any animal, really) as long as they 1. don't belong to anyone, 2. are killed humanely, and 3. are not endangered/against the law to kill.
Why dont you stop being such an unintelligent dipshit and learn to spel. You obviously haven't evolved past the animal stage in the human race's evolution path. Still a dumb animal, but a dipshit to
