I feel like us American citizens would raise such a huge stink if we did this because they'd be rioting about how little we care about our own people when in reality we're holding to a previously established doctrine of non negotiation.
It's not even that, it's that us citizens don't understand that although it's tragic that people were captured by terrorists and are being tortured, we can't afford to negotiate with them. Otherwise it shows we're weak. We can't think for individuals, we have to first think for the country.
agreeg! Negotiating with one terrorist will invite every terrorist to start actively capturing people that they think they can leverage for $. its a perfect example of why making a right decision can sometimes feel so horribly wrong. As a country we cant do what seems best for people immediately, we have to have the big picture in mind.
WTF? Don't do that! You're literally saying that we should maim, torture and possibly kill innocent family members to influence these groups. But isn't the terrorists doing things like that exactly why we hate them?!? I get that you want to fight them, but if you sink to their level, then you're no better than them.
I call for somebody besides the US to act as "world police" and get downvoted, the US acts as "world police" and the US gets downvoted. Not sure how to handle this dichotomy.
