It's actually 100% true. Terry Fox day is a big deal here in Canada. Every year in public school we spend one afternoon walking fot a few hours to remember him.
My high school would always motivate the students to donate money for cancer research by organizing a bunch of crazy challenges for the teachers to do on Terry Fox day after we ran. It was always a pretty entertaining day.
I saw a documentary about him he was inspiring. He wanted to run for cancer to raise money for them and then after running the length from say new york to seattle his cancer came back and he couldn't continue. He is true inspiration.
he was also apparently very rude. a teacher of mine met him during his run and he claims that terry was extremely rude to him. granted, he was mid-run, but that's inexcusable.
He was also in extreme pain the whole run, where his leg fit into the prosthetic leg was in constant pain and bleed from the rubbing. Prosthetics weren't as nice as they used to be. I'd be pretty rude and grumpy if I was exhausted, in pain and dying from cancer at 21.
