I'm not really a geek but I have met people who got mad at me for watching a series a few months after it came out. Like what? I'm suppose to read up on a new series coming out and stay on it when it releases and then cover my walls with posters and change my ringtone to it? I'm sorry, I forgot that only people who do that are allowed to watch the show.
Then guys complain about why some girls hate geek culture

Ooh ooh! I got one. So I was at Comic-Con and I was cosplaying as Captain America. Some guys didn't like that. This man walks up and snidely asks "Who are you supposed to be?" And I didn't realise he was mocking and so I pulled a pose and go "I am Captain America from the Avengers!" And he says "Oh yeah? How did the movie end?" Now I know he was being mean and so I tell the end never leaving out the smallest details. And guess what? That bastard has never seen the movie. I completely spoiled it for him.
The same goes for girls wearing band/musician shirts. I was wearing a Jimi Hendrix shirt and some guy asked me if I even knew who he was. I said yeah and I love his music. He asked me what Hendrix's birth-date was and I was like, "Why do I have to know his birthday to enjoy his music and wear a shirt?" I mean seriously guys back the fuck up.
So what if they wear the t-shirt but aren't a fan of the thing it's based on? It means they at least appreciate the design and aesthetics of it, which is a positive. It does us no harm for them to wear the t-shirt, so I don't see the problem. If anything, it at least raises awareness for the fandom/band/show/book/etc, encouraging more to seek it out and enjoy it, which is only a good thing in my eyes.
I agree. They do make great advertising to grow the fanbase from curiosity alone. What I disagree with is how when a fanbase gets made fun of for existing for anything and then once it grows large enough them jump on the band wagon as if they were there before you... Sometimes they try to throw out facts about the product and say they been in since before it came out when they made fun of you last week for it... And then look down on you for not being extreme like them in cosplay or wearing products of the product or anything really... They are just assholes..
That's why most people love this website. The good open-minded people make great conversation and the sharing of same interest and ideas makes friends quickly. Also doesn't hurt to be in the same fanbase hehe.
I wear geek shirts all the time and when I answer correctly I've never been given shit...so as a woman im saying this comic generalized men and is therefore sexist
