We read this awful story in Spanish class in the back of our Spanish book (in Spanish) about a coati family. It was so horrible. This coati was trapped in a cage, but the owners of the cage were nice to him. One night, a snake slipped into the cage and bite him and he died. Then one of his coati brothers who looked the most like him crawled into the cage and replaced him. The coati family took their dead brother/son and buried him, while the one in the cage remained so the family that trapped the original coati wouldn't know that it died. It was so sad. I almost started crying right in the middle of class. ;__;
They're called coati or coatimundi. They're part of the raccoon family. They live in an area stretching from Mexico to the northern half of South America.
